The beach of Var Nord is located in the Bolzano province and has a surrounding area of meadow, reed bed, and coniferous forest.

The lake, named Lake Varna, was formed by the damming of an abandoned section of the bed of the Isarco River and has a rocky bottom consisting of quartz phyllite and granite, covered partially by moraine deposits. The area is largely covered by mixed woodland with a large silting up area covered in reeds, almost twice the size of the lake, in the south. The catchment area is named Adige River, and the beach's use includes fishing. The Autonomous Province of Bolzano South Tyrol Provincial Agency for Environmental Protection Biological Laboratory provides a synthetic profile of the bathing water.
